Centre for Educational Studies, Pune


The Indian Institute of Education relocated to Pune in 1976 to expand its reach to both rural and urban communities. The institute since then has initiated new ventures and among these are establishment of centres that served different purposes.

The Centre for Educational Studies is recognized by the University of Pune as a ‘Permanently Recognized Research Institute’ under section 46 of the Pune University Act (1974) for conducting M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in subject - Education (Interdisciplinary). The objectives of the programme offered by the Centre are:

  • To create a pool of researchers trained to analyse, plan, manage and improve education.
  • To strengthen and further evolve methodologies of educational research for creating rational foundations for reviews and formulation of educational policies, plans and action-programmes.
The faculty of the CES is actively involved in teaching, training, research, seminars and conduction of other extension activities for government and non-government organizations both at the state and national level. Similarly, in the light of interdisciplinary nature of education, various research and extension activities are undertaken by the CES faculty.
