The Institute offers programme Ph.D in Education (Interdisciplinary), affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University. The academic faculty of the Centre for Educational Studies is involved in these programmes. The faculty apart from teaching also undertakes interdisciplinary research in education and social sciences and conducts a number of extension activities. The present faculty of this centre is;
Prof. Manoj Kar, is Professor in Health Systems, Education & Policy Studies, at the Center for Educational Studies, IIE. Prof. Kar is a Social Scientist and Public Systems Management Specialist in health development having more than 20 years of academic, research and capacity building in public policy & governance and actively engaged in teaching, research, consultancy & advisory services in the field of Public Health, Health Education & Behavioral Research Studies.
Jyoti Bawane is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Educational Studies, Indian Institute of Education, Pune. She has a Doctorate in Education and Post-graduate in Psychology and Education. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience at M.Phil level and has been guiding Ph.D and M.Phil students since 2006. So far 10 Ph.D students and 12 M.Phil students have been awarded under her guidance. Apart from teaching, she has been engaged in research, curriculum development, capacity building, consultancy and extension programmes. Her areas of research are teacher education, critical pedagogy, online education, learning assessments and tribal education. She has conducted several research studies and currently, she is co-director of ICSSR special study project on ‘Ethical communitarianism: Tacking COVID-19 in Maharashtra’ and recently completed a project funded by UNESCO and IEA Germany on Response to Educational Disruption Survey (REDS).
Dr. Vikas Mane has done his Doctoral studies in the area of Globalization and Higher Education from the then University of Pune. He received the UGC NET- JR Fellowship for his doctoral studies. As a researcher his subjects of interest include Political Science, Sociology and Education, especially in an Interdisciplinary approach. His areas of research include Globalization and education (especially Higher Education), education of the marginalized communities and an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and practice. Following this approach he has worked on various research projects, funded by external agencies such as the ICSSR, SCERT Pune, Kolhapur Zilla Parishad and also the Indian Institute of Education, on tribal education – Ashram shala’s and the School Curriculum and other domains of education for the underprivileged sections of the society. He has also carried out extensive research on the Educational Status of the Denotified and Nomadic tribes of Maharashtra.
Dr.Santosh Sabale has been completed his M.A. in Sociology and Economics and Ph.D. in Sociology from Savitribai Phule Pune University. He qualified the NET/SET exams in Sociology and Economics. He was an Erasmus Mundus Ph.D. Research Fellow at University of Deusto, (Bilbao) Spain in 2009-10. He is also a recipient of Dr.Ambedkar National Merit Award, 2015 by Dr.Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi by participating in Dr.Ambedkar Study Tour to Columbia University, New York from 19th October – 25th October, 2015, on the grand celebration of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar. Currently, he is a M.Phil. & Ph.D. research guide in Education (Interdisciplinary) at Centre for Educational Studies, IIE. He is also having good research and teaching experience in Sociology and education. He wrote a couple of research articles and books in the allied subjects.
